Framer Server API key

KnotCMS uses the Framer Server API to list CMS collections, sync items, and optionally publish your site.

Wizard order

Framer is step 1 in the setup wizard — before Source and mapping.

Create an API key in Framer

1. Open your project in Framer.
2. Go to Site settings → API Keys (Beta).
3. Click Add to create a project-scoped key for the Server API.
4. Copy the key — Framer may only show the full value once when you create it.

API Keys are project-scoped. Use Add to create a key that authenticates with the Server API.

Note

Framer labels this section Beta. The UI may change, but the key always scopes to the project you create it in.

Enter it in KnotCMS

On Step 1 · Framer in the setup wizard:

1. Paste your Framer project URL (from the browser address bar while the project is open).
2. Paste the Server API key.
3. Click Load collections, then Continue.

Load collections to verify the URL and key before continuing.

Caution

The API key must belong to the same Framer project as the URL. A mismatch causes FRAMER_UNAUTHORIZED errors — see Error codes.

Note

Selecting a Framer CMS collection in step 1 is optional unless you use a setup path that connects existing Framer content. For a new Notion → Framer collection, you can load collections and continue without selecting one.

Security

Your API key is encrypted at rest in KnotCMS. Never share it publicly or commit it to git.
