Auto-sync

Auto-sync is a toggle. Turn it on and KnotCMS keeps your Framer CMS in step with Notion by itself — there is nothing to configure in Notion, no webhook to register, and no token to paste.

KnotCMS checks each connected Notion database once a minute and syncs when something has changed. Nothing changed means nothing runs, so a quiet database costs you nothing.

What to expect after an edit in Notion:

SituationTime until it is in Framer
Normalunder 2 minutes, usually about 1
You set up a Notion webhook before this changedseconds
With auto-publish on, time until it is on your live siteadd the publish cooldown — 5 minutes live, 3 minutes preview

Either place sets the same switch:

  • During setup — the wizard’s Automation step, the last one before Create & sync.
  • Afterwards — your project’s Settings tab.

Underneath the toggle, KnotCMS tells you what it costs:

Syncs every minute. Free plan includes 10 syncs. Upgrade for unlimited.

The Auto-sync field tells you how this project is being kept up to date:

ShownMeaning
Polling, every minuteNormal. KnotCMS checks for changes every minute.
Webhook, instantThis project still has a verified Notion webhook, so syncs land in seconds.
Paused, free syncs usedThe free plan allowance is gone.
Paused, needs attentionChecks failed repeatedly and KnotCMS stopped retrying.
OffThe auto-sync toggle is off.

Above it, a headline says the same thing in a sentence:

HeadlineWhat it means
Sync pipeline activeNotion changes flow to your Framer CMS collection automatically.
Free syncs used upAutomatic syncing is paused because this plan’s syncs are used. Upgrade to keep Notion flowing to Framer.
Auto-sync pausedSeveral checks in a row failed, so KnotCMS stopped retrying. Fix the cause and click Sync now to resume.
Manual sync onlyThis connection is idle until you click Sync now or turn on auto-sync.

On the project list, each project carries a badge: Healthy, Free syncs used, Paused, or Error.

Two things stop automatic syncing. Neither deletes anything, and neither needs you to reconnect or reconfigure.

The free plan includes 10 syncs for the life of the project. When they are gone, automatic syncing stops and the project page says Free syncs used up.

Everything stays visible and your Framer content stays where it is. Subscribe and automatic syncing resumes within a minute — there is nothing to reset.

If KnotCMS cannot read your Notion database several times in a row, it stops retrying and shows the reason on the project page. This is for problems only a person can fix — most often the KnotCMS integration having been removed from the database in Notion, or the database having been deleted.

To clear it: fix the cause, then click Sync now. One successful manual sync resumes automatic syncing.

  1. Add or edit a row in your Notion database.
Notion database with a newly added row
Add or edit a row in the Notion database this project is connected to.
  1. Wait a minute, then open the project page. Synced should show a recent time and Items in Framer should reflect the change — with no Sync now click.

Keep it. Existing webhooks still work and your syncs stay near-instant; the project page shows Webhook, instant rather than Polling, every minute. You do not need to remove anything in Notion.

The once-a-minute check now runs underneath as a safety net, so a webhook that breaks or expires no longer means silence. If you delete the subscription in Notion, syncing simply carries on at the one-minute pace.

If you delete a row in Notion and change nothing else, KnotCMS may not notice until the next time you edit something, and the item stays in Framer until then. Clicking Sync now removes it immediately.

(A deletion is visible to the once-a-minute check only when the deleted row was the most recently edited one. Otherwise the check sees nothing new.)
